Sharing Session Mary Dhang #1: Introducing Mentee's and Mentor's Life Map

Entering semester seven, I got a new mentor. Bang Rama and Kak Anti facilitate mentor for the next 6 months project like the previous semester. This time, I'm mentored by a mentor from outside Indonesia, namely Mary from Philiphine. We have met this month, August, twice with a total meeting duration of approximately 2.5 hours via the Zoom application. The meeting will be held on Friday, 21 August 2020 at 1.00 PM PH, and Saturday, 22 August 2020 at 2.00 PM PH. At the first meeting, we discussed several points, namely introductions to each other and what topics might be applied into a project. Meanwhile, at the second meeting, Mary gave me the task to explain my life goals and milestones. This is so that we both know our experiences, self-understanding and also an interest in something in life. Okay, here are some of the points we covered during the August meeting:

About Mary

Mary Adelyn Dhang Tecson is a Philiphine social entrepreneur who founded a business called Balangay's Best. In fact, Balangay's Best is the name of seafood products from fishermen in the Philippines who were found by the Mary Dhang team. This product is produced by fisherfolk through a good and high quality process. It is manufactured and distributed by Fishers and Changemakers Inc., a prime mover and lone social enterprise established in 2014 that partners with local fishing communities.

This business helps fishermen to `get their income back after the typhoon storm in 2013. The fishermen are also provided with money and knowledge about the processing of dried seafood products. Balangay's Best also teaches fishermen to fish safely and not damage the environment so that it creates sustainable products

Balangay's has collaborated with chefs and is endorsed by the Department of Agriculture. In 2016. Balangay's Best has been registered by the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration). This product has also collaborated with many international parties. In 2018, the Department of Foreign Affairs brought products to North America and collaborated with Filipino restaurant in America.

Long before Balangay's Best was founded, Mary already had a lot of experience in other fields. She registered nurse by proffesion. Mary stated that she is obsessive compulsive where she likes things that are planned in detail. She has a high social spirit, namely wanting to help others, doing meaningful things, and liking real action.

My Milestone

Mary gave me a simple task of introducing me and the mentor. The two tasks are LIFE MAP and SMART goals tracker. LIFE MAP aims to share with each other about life and help to understand each other. LIFE MAP is structured with a down lane quick trip arrangement that includes activities, important events and experiences. Here are the results that I have created and described with Mary

Meanwhile, the SMART Goal Tracker is a template or form designed to track future achievements in the short and long term. This is useful so that the mentor can find out about future planning and help the Mantee to achieve these goals within the planned time. Setting SMART Goals consists of Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, and Time-Based.

Our Discussion

After finishing with the LIFE MAP presentation, we talked about what points were related to the LIFE MAP. The questions are as follows:

1. How was it like making your life map and what have you learned about yourself?

2. Did anything inspired you with your life map and what was it?

3. Is there anything in your life map that surprised you?

4. Based on your life map, what qualities and values do you stand for?

5. is there any quality that you will commit to developing this year?

6. What people seeing about you?

7. Do you see any moment disepintmend and challenge in your life? What are they and how do you response?

8. What would be the next point on your life map?

We discussed the question then Mary gave me a suggestion or response to my answer. many things I say, so does he. He gave a lot of lessons, especially related to personality, life-quarter crisist and planning for the future.

Program's Continuity

The continuity of the project topic will be discussed next month. The following are some of the topics proposed and can be fulfilled by mentors: social marketing campaigns, financial management, supply chain management, product development, markting & sales. Next month's meeting, September, will first discuss the SMART goals tracker. The meeting plan will be held in the second week at the same time as before.
